Copy This! #8 and Skinned-Alive Boy

Copy This! #8 is a 40-page, B&W info and news mini comic zine about comics (mini or otherwise). Published by D. Blake Werts. This issue includes the reversible mini comic Skinned-Alive Boy #s 8 & 9 from Maximum Traffic and Sean Bieri!

***NOTE - Blake is planning an all art issue of Copy This! If you’d like to have your art considered for publication you need to send it in by 15 Dec 2014. Keep in mind your art should be formatted to fit a mini (5.5” x 4.25”) and be kept to a PG-13 type of rating. Check out Blake’s contact info at the end of this thing if you need to contact him for more details.***

This issue of Copy This! starts off with a brief history explaining the origin of the term “Obscuro” as recalled by Steve Willis. Then Mike Hill provides his recollections of this past summer’s Obscuro Bezango Exhibition (with pictures!). Later, at the end of the zine, we are treated to a few pages of creator information and news updates filled with current offerings and ordering info! The bulk of Copy This! #8 is an interview by Andy Nukes of Buzz Buzzizyk (or is it the other way around?). The two talk about early artistic influences, musical connections and preferences, the transformative potential of comics, and the social impact the digital generation could have. They also venture into the Obscuro and Newave art scenes as well as the mail art scene as they reminisce about past undertakings. Then things get a little philosophical as the pair explore where ideas come from, but we’re quickly brought back to the world of tactile art as the discussion turns to working in other mediums. The interview concludes with a few parting thoughts on the now defunct White Buffalo Gazette.
