A Dying Place or California Dreamin’ #1 is a 28-page, B&W minicomic with color cutout cover, written & illustrated by Enrique Martinez.

“Ryk,” our main character, gets taken aback by a familiar taste that floods his memory with thoughts of an old girlfriend. Things didn’t end so smoothly the last time he was with her and now he decides it’s time to put things right…over the phone. When the call doesn’t go as hoped Ryk turns his thoughts to events from 13 years ago and reveals how he and “Molly” began their relationship, romantic farts, inbred crazy dogs, and all!

The art is minimal and cartoony with bold simple line work, while the writing is full of emotion and anxiety. The two balance out well and complement each other in this engaging little minicomic!
