Copy This! #40
For Mini-Comic Monday it’s…Copy This! #40. This issue is a 44-page, B&W info/news
mini comic zine published by D. Blake Werts with 8-page minicomic insert “Pictures
of Benevolence” by Michael Neno.
In this issue Blake sits down with Michael Neno for an enjoyable and lengthy interview. The two discuss a bunch of current projects Michael has going, and Michael opens up about making a living solely off of his creative endeavors and he goes on to provide some tips on finding freelance gigs. Then Blake and Michael discuss how Michael got into comics, when he started making comics, and his early influences. That leads nicely into a discussion about Michael’s various styles and tools used to create his art. Then, as with just about all of the Copy This! Interviews, the talk turns to music. I don’t know if it’s Blake’s interest in music that steers these interviews in that direction, or if it’s just a common thread that runs through most creative types, but music always seems to factor in somehow. I’m not complaining, music plays an important part in my life too, I just find its reoccurrence in these interviews interesting. Anyway, the interview winds down with a brief bit on discovering mini comics and the small press and a closing discussion on favorite and least favorite projects Michael has worked on.
Following the interview is the community news and info section that fill us in on the current offerings from: Charles Brubaker (Fuzzy Princess, Ask a Cat); Dale Martin (Smeary Soapbox Press-ents); Jacob Alvarez (Hypnospiral Comics, Chinatown Bus); Kel Crum (Cornelia Cartoons); John Porcellino (King-Cat Comics and Stories); Joseph Tenney (Squad Car); Richard Krauss (The Digest Enthusiast); and Robert Pasternak (Meanwhile).
PLUS, as mentioned, this issue comes with the 8-page “Pictures of Benevolence” by Michael Neno!
