First off is Being Different by Jason Crawley (story) and Santos Zaballos (art). This terror tale introduces a couple of Romanian sisters newly transplanted to England in the late 1800’s. As the two adjust to life at an English ladies boarding school they also must contend with a jealous rival and a grisly murder reminiscent of the Ripper!
Next is Let the Corpses Lie by Juan Alcudia (story) and Carlos Lamani (art). This time we follow an ex-con recently released from jail and hired to do a job, only thing is the job proves hazardous to his health!
Then in Run, Rabbit, Run! by Jason Crawley (story) and Marc Gras Cots (art) we’re treated to a twisted take on the lucky rabbit’s foot through the eyes of a loyal and observant companion!
In The Fishman by Alex Ogalla (story) and Sal L. Donaire (art) we get hooked and reeled into a tale that combines climate change, time travel, and the fate of the planet! Talk about a fish story!
Later enter a world of magic, swords, and fantasy in the Wicked Creatures by Sam Agro (story and art). Here a brave king seeks to defeat a vile demon with the help of his beloved wife’s conjuring, but alas all is not what it seems!
Following is Phosphenes by David Brana (story) and Javier Caba (art), which proves to be no sleeper as an awkward janitor discovers a mathematical formula that allows him to enter dreams!
What Happened to the Ripper? by Jason Crawley (story) and Ellis Goodson (art) takes us on a tall tale that’s out of this world as we learn the true fate of the infamous Jack the Ripper!
As the pages turn we encounter a big game hunter in Trophy by Jeff Provine (story) and Ellis Goodson (art). This time the hunter has entered into the supernatural realm to bag his prized prey, but mortal moods prove they can still play their part!
Next a stranger visits a small village in Blood Sausage by Alfonso Bueno (story) and Santos Zaballos (art) and looks to gather folktales that he may regret getting his hands on!
As night falls we visit Electric City by Mike Hoffman (story and art) where monster look-alikes live and embrace community in the shadows of a power outage!
And lastly, The Gunplayer by Mike Hoffman (story and art) provides a short and powerful glimpse into the pervasive gun culture that has come to define our time and destroy lives.
As always The Bloke brings together a delightful assortment of horrors that shape and turn ordinary situations into fearful flights of fantasy! The writing in each story is well thought out and paced to carry the reader along for the ride and then hit them with the unforeseen twist! The art spans several different styles and each is executed with expertise and exquisite detail that’s an eerie elation to take in!
