Walking Distance
Walking Distance https://buff.ly/31zXPI5 is a 58-page, full
color, digest size, slice-of-life comic written and illustrated by Lizzy Stewart.
Published by Avery Hill Publishing.
As Lizzy walks the streets of London she makes note of what it is to be
her, a confident woman among the bustling byways and buildings of a large city.
Lizzy explores the fears, the empowerment, the perceptions, and the expectations
that surround her life and what they all mean to her. Walking Distance
is a comic about revelation. Specifically about who the writer/artist is in her
place and time among the streets of her city.
Rather than relying of speech bubbles or narration boxes, Lizzy fits
free floating descriptive prose and written narratives between watercolor
imagery on each page to tell her story of self-reflection and observation. Lizzy’s
examination of both the internal and external self in the city is beautifully
rendered in a series of pale watercolor images that showcase the busy streets, landscapes,
and Lizzy herself.
