Ch05En: Kris (Ch05En Comics Book 3)

Ch05En: Kris https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089543B21 is a 60-page, full color, dystopian fantasy comic written by William Dickstein with art by Rae Larson (cover and interior) and E Tavaz (colors).

This comic is part of an expanded universe that includes a novel, comics, and chapter books for children, among other things. Each story in this expanded universe is first-person, character driven, and contributes to the building of the world of Ch05En. That's a neat and unique approach!

In Ch05En: Kris we're introduced to a young woman with an unusual genetic ability; she can harness and use her tattoos to manifest physical energy! The story takes place in a future where geneticists make a scientific breakthrough that identities a gene that marks an individual's potential for greatness. Some of those identified are heroes. Some are terrorists. Some are opportunists only looking out for themselves. This is where we meet "Kris," the young woman with a most unusual gift. She's on the move looking for new ink and a not-so-dirty dumpster. Unfortunately thing don't go Kris' way and she finds herself up against some other genetically gifted folks that want her skin! Things take a turn when a trio of strangers happen upon the scene and Kris' life is set on a whole new trajectory!

This is a very original story that does a great job of introducing characters by providing a deep dive into who the character is as a person. The genetic abilities are an important element of the story, but the characters themselves drive the story. The writing sets a pace that maintains its focus on character development and doesn't rely solely on action to move things along. The art relies on form, lighting, and color rather than detail. The result is a stylish, slick look that works well with the futuristic setting of the tale and you can visit the world of Ch05En at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089543B21!
