Carpal Tunnel Headache https://fluke.bigcartel.com/product/carpal-tunnel-headache is a 92-page, black and white, half size, offset print, zine by Everett Gee. Published by Fluke Publishing. $5.00. This is a collection of punk show fliers Everett Gee created between 2010 – 2022. Just about every page in this fat little zine features detailed, bold, and expressive line work that makes Everett’s art so intriguing. Each flier pops with low brow grotesque gorgeousness. Weirdly shaped fiendish figures with broken and bruised bodies dance from one page to the next. Scars, sores, and bodily fluids abound and entertain in this treasury of trash that is sweet eye-candy for the connoisseur of the low life rendered refinement!  Get your grimey fingers on Carpal Tunnel Headache at https://fluke.bigcartel.com/product/carpal-tunnel-headache and find more at http://theflufactory.blogspot.com/ and at http://www.flukefanzine.com/

Mineshaft #43 https://mineshaftmagazine.com/store.html is a 60-page, black and white, digest size anthology printed on offset press with the cover printed on French Paper Company Construction White 100 pound Cover Paper, and featuring contributions from Drew Friedman, R. Crumb, Noah Van Sciver, Aline Crumb, Sophie Crumb, Christoph Mueller, Henry Denander, Fabio Vermelho, Robert Armstrong, Max Clotfelter, Glenn Head, Nathalie Tierce, David Collier, Hurricane Ivan & More! This issue also includes Letters from Around the World. Cover art by Drew Friedman, lettering & co-design by Christoph Mueller, and back cover by R. Crumb! ($15.00)

In this issue the talented cast of creative cartoonists explore the value of art through a duck’s eyes, the difficult decision of abortion, a retrospective on how R. Crumb came to be connected to Mineshaft, a walk down memory lane in New York, a bit on the late, great Leonard Cohen, the frustration of having too many ideas, some dysfunctional family time with Max Clotfelter, and plenty of underground-esque art!

Mineshaft remains one of the few print publications where fans of truly independent comix can still find something original and entertaining! Find out for yourself at https://mineshaftmagazine.com/store.html

Blood Horn https://www.reptilehousecomix.com/ is a 44-page, standard size, black and white, with super sick Super Gold Cover, written and illustrated by Nick Bunch. Published by Reptile House Comix. ($6.00)

Somewhere in the south a biker chick stops at a redneck bar and kicks the shit out of some confederate ass before heading to a battle-of-the-bands in Philly. Along the highway a couple of local PoPos give chase and soon find themselves in the big city surrounded by Yankee sin! What follows is a mix of music, money, and masochistic delight…all embellished in exaggerated old school comix style!

You can find Blood Horn and a bunch of other goodies in the Reptile House at https://www.reptilehousecomix.com/

BirBs http://bunnyvomit.com/ is a 16-page, digest size, humor comic created by Birdie and published by Bunny Vomit.

In BirBs two feathered friends explore ways to best those pesky cats that are making bank with funny videos. The two try unsuccessfully to come up with ideas and then, at the urging of another friend, decide a life of crime might just be a faster route to wealth! The cartoony art and lighthearted gags make BirBs a quick and fun read. You can find more laughs from Bunny Vomit at http://bunnyvomit.com/

Emmanuel Filteau emmanuel.filteau@gmail.com http://tfti.inkorpora.com/

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Through the Interface, Artificial intelligence now controls human destiny. Put to sleep by a million virtual dreams, our will slowly evaporated.

[Montréal, Québec, February 15 2023] Emmanuel Filteau is launching the fourth comic book in his creator-owned series, TALES FROM THE INTERFACE. Coming to Kickstarter, March 15.

What will be left of us when we no longer think for ourselves and depend on technology for every aspect of our life? When they are not dreaming, citizens must endure in a harsh, violent and closed-up decaying city. Order is maintained by the Robopaxes, nightmarish tentacular monsters. At the center of all this, a couple is torn apart. While Clara continues unraveling the mysteries of humanity's past, Gauthier sinks ever deeper into promises of luxury and unending dreams.

TALES FROM THE INTERFACE is brilliantly detailed, colorful sci-fi epic, packed full of clever references dipped in black humour.

“I really get the feel of some of the more out-there stories in Judge Dredd, or a weird amalgamation of some of the more off the wall Future Shocks. This is high praise and should be read to be enjoyed. I can see people settling down on a dark night to read this as it totally immerses you into it.”

3millionyears.co.uk

Emmanuel Filteau is a Montreal-based author. He’s been independently publishing TALES FROM THE INTERFACE since 2017 and has been in the comics business since 1997. He’s published in numerous anthologies/magazines. TALES FROM THE INTERFACE is a truly independent project. As a solo creator, Emmanuel takes pride in the singular expression of art as a form of communication and describes his comic as a big part of how he talks to the world. Tales from the Interface 1 won 3rd place in Bleeding Cool’s Top Independent comic of 2017 and Book 3 was nominated for best comic book in Sequential Magazine 2021 Awards.

STEADY ROLLIN’: Preacher’s Kid, Black Punk, and Pedaling Papa
by Fred Noland

Starting as a hardscrabble misfit and minister's son in the Bible Belt, followed by a stint as a suburban So-Cal Black punk, and onward to bicycle-obsessed, graphic novelist and dad in Oakland, Steady Rollin’ is a portrait of the author in time-lapse. His memoir is composed of vignettes, uncovering his origins as an artist, exploring relationships past and present, ruminating on trauma and loss, and ultimately finding his place in the flow of life.

Noland employs styles that capture the essence of the moment and dialogue that reflects the multi-layered complexities and challenges of communication. Steady Rollin' is an autobiographical anthology stitched together by years of work across styles that range from the sharp and detailed renderings for his New Yorker pieces to dreamier representations from his childhood.  His reflections are at turns absurd, bitingly funny, and poignant. With its investigation the into the cycle of life from the Before Times to The New Normal, Steady Rollin’ documents a world and a life in transition

Yes, it is that time of year again where we officially kick off the planning for SPX 2023. This year's SPX will occur September 9-10, 2023 at the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel & Conference Center, with events occurring in the days preceding the show throughout the Washington, D.C. area.

Please be sure to check out our newly redesigned web site.

We look forward to seeing everybody this September!!

COVID-19 AND SPX

In these times of pandemics and other easily transmitted diseases, the health and safety of the SPX Community is paramount in our minds. So here is where we stand with health measures at this year's show:

  • Masking will be required for everybody, attendees, exhibitors and SPX staff/volunteers.

  • If there is a current Covid wave close to the show, proof of vaccination will once again be required to gain entry. This decision will be made and communicated to the SPX Community in mid-late August.

  • For exhibitors, we will once again limit the number of people behind tables to 2-3 people, with medical exceptions allowed.

ATTENDEE KEY DATES

  • First week in June - For those attendees coming from out of town, the hotel room block will be made available.

  • Late June - Advance tickets will go on sale.

  • Late June - Special Guests will be announced.

If you're a comic creator, we want you--and our applications will be opening soon!

Applications Open: March 13th, 2023
Applications Close: April 10th, 2023

If you're interested in applying, we encourage you to hop on over to https://www.micexpo.org/applyhttps://www.micexpo.org/apply to peruse our application guidelines to help get a bit of a head start on preparing your materials!

We are interested in providing our attendees with a healthy mix of local talent, first-time exhibitors, exhibitors working in print comics, and with new work. Our goal is to maximize the diversity of our exhibitor roster in several senses of the word: diversity of genre, of styles, and of voices.

Additionally, as the Boston area’s major independent comics show, we strive as much as possible to give a platform for local and regional creators. Using these criteria, the show will be fully curated by our jury. We appreciate your understanding that while interest in MICE grows, our available space remains limited.

We can't wait to get going! We'll talk to y'all soon!
