In Loser Comix #2 Richard Van Ingram brings us a collection of stories loaded with social commentary and dark humor that shines an unflattering light on the current state of affairs in the U.S. Among the entries in Loser Comix #2 are Return of the Plague. A disturbing story where we’re introduced to an unfortunate young lady that finds herself detained by fascist forces that suspect she has been infected by a virus, a terrorism virus! Another piece is Chunky Brownuts. In Chunky Brownuts we’re treated to a parody of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts, and here Lucy’s psychiatry booth has been replaced by an arms dealer and everyone’s favorite beagle and his feathered sidekick are replaced by a couple of chain smoking, unemployed anthropomorphic characters! Later, in Firing Line, Richard gives us a glimpse into the bewildering mind of a right-wing Tea Partyer that happily works against his own interest by feeding the system that grows stronger by stripping away his rights and forcing him deeper into debt and misery!

Richard’s storytelling is smart and loaded with revealing observations on our deteriorating culture and seemingly indifference to our own waning on the vine. The overall layout of the comic and the arrangement of stories establish a satisfying pace that’s easy to follow. The lettering is legible and well arranged on each page to support the story and not detract from the art. The Artwork is highly detailed and often takes on a darker tone consistent with the stories it’s backing.
