What's the S'mores Award??

Check Out the Inaugural S’mores Award Winners! The Comic Arts Maine Portland festival (aka CAMP) awards two artists with the S’mores Award Mini-Grant each year, and we’re thrilled to carry the first two recipients, A Warm Touch by Alvi Slocumb, and Boba? Boba! by Dajia Zhou! Boba? Boba! Is a brightly colored, fun comic that tells the history of boba tea, its appeal, and where it sits culturally in the United States and the world. Who invented this delightful drink? Where did it get its name? What’s your favorite flavor? This comic gets the conversation going, and the cravings are real! Order Boba? Boba! by Dajia Zhou today! A Warm Touch is a beautifully crafted, poetic high fantasy comic featuring a troll as she seeks out adventure! But success in adventure doesn’t come from daring deeds and brute force, it’s found in compassion and caring! You will want to return to this fantastic world again and again! Order A Warm Touch by Alvi Slocumb today! If you make comics and would like to exhibit at next year’s CAMP (April 3, 2027), applications are open until November 3! Congratulations to Yoko O.K. and Sanika Phawde for their Ignatz Awards! At September’s Small Press Expo, Sanika Phawde won the Outstanding Series Ignatz Award for the second year in a row for their series, Wedding Juice and Other Melodramas! Yoko O.K. won the Outstanding Minicomic Ignatz Award for her comic, Uncoiling: A Japanese-American Family’s History! Congratulations Yoko & Sanika! We’re so excited to carry these comics and all the other nominees that we distribute! We had a great time at SPX tabling with buttercup and Coco Picard, and next to Whit Taylor, who debuted her completed series, Fizzle! Recent Comics in our Distro! The East Village Inky by Ayun Halliday, is back! This time, Ayun is reflecting on half of her gosh darn life in gosh darn New York City! This always-hand-lettered zine is full of humor and deft observations by someone who’s lived it! We recently received two thick risograph comics from the good folks at Stray Lines! Art Brat Comics vol. 1 by Mollie Cronin is a body positive collection of humor comics about embracing fatness, and all the garbage the world throws at you for it! The Unofficial Cuckoo’s Nest Study Companion by Luke Healy is an interwoven comic about a play based on a novel, full of interpersonal drama! The Cosmic Ballad of Layla + Airy by Mira Ong Chua is an interstellar gender-swapping magical romance for the ages! Ambitious adventurer Layla Lowlight finds a magic wand that turns her into “Layle,” the doppelganger of pop sensation Airy Highlight! With someone who can stand in for him, Airy can now escape the spotlight to find his crush…the ambitious adventurer Layla Lowlight! We recently received the fourth issue of Días Cómic’s autobio comic anthology Estaño! This time, Rosaura Rodríguez and Omar Banuchi welcome friend, Mónica Parada to the zine’s pages! Días Cómic also recently announced the shuttering of their small press for the time being. We are so grateful to carry their titles (and received a bunch more copies of several of their books when we got Estaño). Rosaura and Omar’s curation and design work are fantastic (and their personal comics are great too!), and we wish them the best in whatever they do next! Everyday it feels like we haven’t said it enough times or loudly enough, or to enough people, because it’s a big deal: Whit Taylor has completed her 7-issue series, Fizzle, and we are so proud to be the publisher! This pitch-perfect conclusion sees Claire finally confront her relationships and job, and present her popsicles to the public!
