Radiator Comics: We Love Personal Comics!

This fall we've been lucky to table at several small press and self-publishing fairs. We see the power of telling your own story through paper and ink. You don't need much to make a comic, you can just make it! Seeing all the amazing ideas and dazzling art made with thoughtful hands is what keeps us doing what we do!

three comic covers: the first is a self-portrait of the author with short hair and glasses wiping away a tear, she is saying "ok kids, shoes on, let's go" her head is on fire. The second cover features a drawing of the author napping with her three small children against a green background. The third cover features a pelican standing on the beach wearing sunglasses.

Marnie Galloway has a particular knack at telling personal stories that go far beyond any easy synopsis. On Fire is one of our favorite comics we've read this year. Marnie reflects on taking her small children to school the morning after another school shooting in America. Marnie has to project calm and stability even as she grapples with how fragile her ability to protect her children is. On Fire is an exceptional example of the power of cartooning to express complex ideas in a digestible form.

Also new from Marnie, two top-notch diary comics collections, Really In It and Pensacola!

two comic covers. One cover features a self-portrait of the author sitting in a hospital waiting room under a wall-mounted television. The other zine's cover features several black-and-white drawings of cats.

We added two new 8.5 x 11" zines from Iona Fox! Sadly, the Alley Cat Zine is already sold out. But Tough Shit is a thoughtful, defiant, and often humorous reflection on cancer treatment and being equipped with a colostomy bag. Iona's singular cartooning voice shines on every page!

three comic covers, each featuring self-portraits of the author. One portrait is of the author lying on the ground wearing a surgical mask. The other two comics feature the author as a pile of unidentified meat.

Welcome to Marta Syrup! Marta's series, Mystery Meat collects colorful comics that range from humorous autobiographical reflections, and modern retellings of classic folk tales! We're also happy to carry her collection of one-page autobio pandemic comics, Untapped!

two comic covers. On the first, a silhouette of a person stands between two lights, everything is very blurry. On the second cover, a giant cockroach points to a person out of frame as two cats look on with surprise.

We're amped to carry comics by Evelyn Perez! KCN No. 1 is a Kafkaesque true story of navigating the healthcare system while Evelyn's vision fails her. The way Evelyn represents her vision loss is inventive and striking. Mess is an equally dream-like comic…probably because it is a humorous dream comic!

Three comic covers: a Green cover with a christmas wreath. An orange cover with a simple drawing of a flower. A black and white cover drawing of a house in the fall.

We've got more personal stories by John Porcellino than you can shake a stick at! Whether it's John's childhood and his relationship with his father in The Collected Prairie Pothole (Uncivilized Books), three very different tales from December in Christmas Stories, or the latest in John's regular dispatches from South Wisconsin in King-Cat Comics & Stories No. 83, you'll be treated to an equal dose of serenity and laughs out of his comics!

Two comic covers. The first features a self-portrait of the author asking "Sorry, am I stuck in a time loop?" The second cover shows the author sliding down a sheet of paper titled "Icky Foods List" she is surrounded by food saying "Ew ew ewwww"

Zareen Choudhury's straightforward comics about navigating life are refreshing, funny, and thought-provoking! Fasting or No Fasting is a comedy of errors around getting lab tests done during Ramadan. Going Gluten Free shows how sometimes restrictions in life can lead to broadening one's horizons.

two comic covers. the first is a drawing of the author singing along with a friend as they sing on stage. The second cover is self-portrait of the author as a smiling sunflower.

We've added the two most recent issues of Kevin Budnik's daily diary comics collection, I Hope This Finds You! In these issues, Kevin reflects on friendships, family, and community through beautiful and sincere comics.

two comic covers. The first one features the author lying on the ground wearing ice skates. The second features the author sitting on a toilet smiling.

We're thrilled to add titles by Aimee Pong, including Are you the Girl from the Olympics? all about starting a hobby later in life, and My Life is a Joke No. 1, full of pencil-drawn gag comics about social anxiety and intrusive thoughts!

four book covers, each featuring a self-portait of the book's author either walking on the sidewalk, or looking at something..

We recently added eight titles from One Percent Press including Salad Days by JP Coovert, Phantom by Aatmaja Pandya, Epilogue by Kevin Budnik, and Nearly Miss by Cristina Portolano!
