Ths sign that Quimby's employee Echo recently designed for us that hangs outside our front door really drives the point home that every day is Small Business Saturday when you run an independent bookstore. Or it's Small Business Thursday or Small Business Monday. Any way you slice it, we're here, we're small, and we're local. More than once every holiday, we hear people say when they come up to the register to pay, "You know, I came here to buy stuff for other people but I'm ending up just buying things for myself." So we'll add to that list that we're also thrilled to be a place of temptation.

Can't make it in? We have a few things for sale in our webstore. Want something we don't have on our website but you still want to support us? Order something from our bookshop.org site. By supporting us, you're helping independence thrive!

A helpful note! Are you in the U.S. and hoping to get your mail order by Dec 24th and shopping from our webstore? Please place your order by Dec 12th.

A New Quimby's Black and White Book Spine Sticker!

Chicago-based artist Casey Gartlan (featured here), who runs Witchmxm, made this great black and white Quimby's sticker to help us celebrate 33 years, this being the year of our lord 2024, and we opened in 1991. (More about the significance of 33 and Quimby's here, btw). This beautiful sticker is die-cut, and would be perfect on your thermos (water resistant, baby!), but would also be a fine addition to any Trapper Keeper, filing cabinet or even a forehead. Get it here at the store in person or here on our website. Only $6!

Why is there a spine you ask? If there's 33 vertebrae in the human spine (33, geddit?!), and if Quimby's is the supportive backbone of the zine community in Chicago, and if zines have a spine (saddle stitched, glued or sewn), WHY NOT HAVE A STICKER THAT REFLECTS THAT? We love it so much and think you will too.

2024 Holiday Hours & A Special Tuesday!

Quimby's will be closed Dec 25th and Jan 1st. And guess what? We'll be open on one Tuesday! 12/24 from noon to 6. We figured you'd want that day to shop, even though we're normally closed on that day of the week. See ya then!

Helpful Consignment Check-In Clarification!

Our consignors rule! They make awesome zines and comics, lug (or send) them over here, and then they get excited to see their stuff on the shelves. And we're excited to put their work in people's paws. Of course, our consignors wanna know how and when to check in on their stuff.

So! The long and short of it: you can check in 4 months from the date we itemized your last payout for you. See here for more info!

Her work has been in places like Broken Pencil, Punk Planet, The Zine Yearbook and the back of her friend's toilets. Zine newbies and longtime enthusiasts alike are always welcome at Zine Club Chicago. This free monthly event series is produced by Cynthia E. Hanifin and sponsored by Quimby's Bookstore. Anna Jo Beck designs the monthly flyers, created the logo, and made the Zine Club Chicago Shout-Outs site, where folks can peruse and recommend zines we've discussed at our events.

* You'll need a few sheets of 8.5x11" paper, a pair of scissors, whichever implements you prefer for writing/drawing/etc., and your creativity! If you've never made a mini zine before, here's a quick video tutorial (and we can provide any assistance you need at the event, too): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiUzo41dh5Q
